CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVES
“EmpowerHER: Communication Skills for Professional Women” is a specialized course designed to address the unique challenges and opportunities that women face in the professional world, particularly in the realm of communication. The course is built on the understanding that effective communication is crucial for success in any field, but women often encounter specific obstacles due to societal norms, biases, and expectations.
Context:
Despite progress in gender equality, women still encounter barriers in the workplace, including in communication. However, it is also essential to recognize that communication challenges are not solely due to external factors. Women must take responsibility for their communication styles and behaviors.
Research indicates that women may face challenges such as being interrupted more frequently, receiving less credit for their ideas, and encountering gender-based stereotypes. Many women may struggle to assert themselves confidently, navigate difficult conversations, or advocate for their ideas and accomplishments.
At the same time, it is important to acknowledge that some women may fail in communication because they resist learning better methods or bring dominant matriarchal behaviors into the workplace, which can lead to conflict and a lack of professional growth. Women must ensure they are not part of the problem by fostering effective communication practices, avoiding bullying or conflicts, and being open to feedback and change.
